I quite enjoy "Frasier-Lite" which, like its title, is not perhaps the most delightful of episodes, but which reunites the gang for an entire of ensemble craziness. I do adore the KACL team particularly en masse, and clearly Dan Butler and the gang are relishing the chance for some group comedy. I almost wish the whole episode had been the team turning against one another, as those yield my favourite moments. Ultimately, this it not a laugh-a-second script, true, but it has me warmly chuckling and remembering how much these characters have offered over the past 11 years. It's good to see Bess Armstrong again as Kelly Kirkland (a note-perfect performance) and I really like the family call-in at the start, even if the audience isn't particularly amused!

Jane Leeves was heavily pregnant when this was filmed, so again does very little, but the script has fun with Niles being constantly beaten up by her while sleeping. The bird plot starts out as one of those weaker late "Frasier" subplots, but the quality of the overall dialogue indicates what is to come. Going from a simple "Niles unexpectedly comes to care for a pigeon" idea, we get some very fun physical comedy from Eddie and Martin, a neat tie-in for the two plots at episode's end. I have surprisingly little to say about "Frasier-Lite" but then, this is one of the least ambitious scripts of season 11. It assembles the gang, gives them some laughs, and perhaps could have tried harder. No harm done, though.

The Gangs All Here, Jan 01, 2008

Pretty decent offering and featuring the fab Gil Chesterton, trusty Bulldog,Noel Shemsky and the best station manager ever,Kenny. Frasier and co get involved with a weight loss competition and Eddie eats a pigeon, which i did find funny. All in all it keeps in line with the rest of Season 11,consistent laughs.

'Frasier-Lite' review, Nov 04, 2005

Dan Butler makes his last appearance as Bulldog in the series as the KACL staff compete against rival station KPXY on a morning TV show to see who can lose the most weight, with the winning team rewarded with a trip to Vegas. The title of this episode could also be a fair description of the script and, given that it was put together by no fewer than six writers, it's a shame they couldn't come up with a few more funny lines to counterbalance the over-reliance on slapstick. It's certainly great to see the whole KACL gang of Frasier, Roz, Bulldog, Gil, Kenny and Noel working together as an ensemble but too many of their antics here suffer from a forced and uncharacteristic wackiness, with Bulldog's constant hitting of Noel and Kenny quickly becoming tiresome. The TV weigh-in segments are also somewhat lame, featuring a surprise re-appearance by presenter Kelly Kirkland from Season 8's 'Mary Christmas', while the climax of Roz cutting off her ponytail is just downright silly. However, what redeems this episode is the subplot of Martin and Niles nursing an injured pigeon, Barney, which provides the episode's two best sight gags when Eddie runs off with Barney in his mouth and then later on when the two plots cleverly come together when Frasier thinks that Kenny has eaten the pigeon! Worth a look for another top-notch performance from Kelsey Grammer and a chance to see all the KACL regulars together for the last time but as an episode this feels suspiciously like mid-season filler.
