Episode Synopsis |
Frasier has trouble meeting a new date, Tricia, on-time. First his watch
stopped, then his car breaks down, and Tricia is not impressed. Frasier
begs for a third chance since he is convinced that their initial 10 minute
meeting at the opera was kismet. While preparing for this fateful third
chance, Frasier must contend with a surprise birthday party thrown for
him by Martin, as well as a dinner with the exclusive members of the Safari
club. When Frasier finally catches up with Tricia, she is not quite the
woman of his dreams. Meanwhile Niles is getting lucky with Allison, who
lives two floors below Frasier. At the dinner for the Safari club, which
Allison hosts, Niles learns that Allison is in fact married to a man whose
hobbies include hunting zebra, leaving Niles very worried when Allison
reveals to her husband that she has been seeing someone who's at the dinner......

Frasier Online Episode Review |
The second of the two consecutive party themed episodes , and while it perhaps falls slightly below the standard of it's predecessor, it's still an amusing and enjoyable episode in it's own right. Much of the episode is taken up with Frasier trying (and failing) to meet up with Tricia, a woman he met at the opera, including trying to get out of 2 simultaneous parties in his building just to meet her. There are some great scenes at both parties - Martin, Bulldog and Frasier playing charades and Martin's fit when he realises they are almost out of ice at Frasier's surprise party, and a brilliant moment at the Safari Club dinner when Allison's husband asks her lover to stand up - and as Niles is about to get up, about half a dozen other men do first! While the ending is a tad predictable when it turns out Tricia isn't the woman of his dreams, this is yet another great Season 5 episode.

I have a theory that all great sitcoms build a firm sense of place. When I think of my favourite sitcoms - "Seinfeld", "NewsRadio", "Mary Tyler Moore", "The Golden Girls" - they all revolve around a warm and well-documented location. Frasier's apartment and the Elliott Bay Towers (not to mention KACL) are such examples. |
