Episode Synopsis

Frasier buys his father a telescope as a gift and by accident he spies a woman in another apartment looking at him through another telescope. They begin communicating through written notes and discovers her name is Irene. Soon they are exchanging family histories but it is not before Frasier writes down their phone number that they actually speak. Martin is a little hesitant at first but soon sends Daphne and Frasier away so they can talk in private. They both think they are going to go out on a date but Martin surprises them by saying he turned her invitation down. Martin says to Frasier that the reason is Irene's middle name is Rose, the same as Hester Crane. It is only Daphne who realises that this is not true and works out that it may be because he is a little self-conscious about his hip. Eventually Martin agrees to go out on a date with Irene.

Frasier Online Episode Review

A nice episode that sees Martin striking a friendship with Irene via the telescope Frasier has bought for him. The scene where they exchange family histories via bits of paper is amusing as is the brief appearance of Aunt Patrice who trots out g-speak, leading to Martin to wonder whether she's having a stroke. With a good ending that sees Daphne work out the real reason why Martin is reluctant to see Irene, this is an enjoyable if not particularly memorable Season 1 episode.

Sweet and well-centered, Jul 08, 2009

Reviewer: Sammy J from Canberra, Australia

"Here's Looking at You" is a very sweet episode, centring on Martin's
telescope relationship with a woman in a nearby building. The fact
that Martin's dating life was treated with as much respect (and
sexuality) as his sons was an indication of the intelligence of this
series, and his return to dating in this episode - neatly compounded
by Daphne's astute deduction of his reasoning - is well played. It
was relatively rare in the later seasons for episodes to focus on one
neat storyline, so this is a nice touch. There are also some very
amusing little moments, particularly Maris' Aunt who drops in with
her "G" speak, and challenges the entire Crane clan. A solid episode.
