Frasier becomes the victim of practical jokes for the first but certainly not last time in the series. The culprit here is Bulldog and Frasier unwisely attempts to stoop to his level with an ill-conceived prank of his own. It's hard not to smile at the girlish glee of Frasier's rendition of 'Three Little Maids' and I also like his shameless habit of mentioning his having been to Harvard at every opportunity. Although slightly let down by a not particularly funny closing scene with Frasier and Kate at the hospital, this episode is great fun with the brief appearance of the lizard another in a long line of amusing animal performances in the series. |

'She's the Boss' was the introductory episode to station manager Kate Costas, who proved to be an intellectual equal to Frasier, thus proving both a nightmare and a major threat. The story is re-established in this episode, which sees Frasier fuming about the fact that Bulldog has been encouraged by Kate to publicly humiliate Frasier live on the airwaves.
Despite the fact that Bulldog has proved himself a popular character, I never really took a shine to him. I have enjoyed numerous of Dan Butler's appearances, but I don't think episode work as well when Bulldog is barking at the centre of them. I didn't really like this episode enormously therefore, but there were still plenty of noticeable highlights.
In contradiction to the previous paragraph I did really enjoy being allowed some insight into Bulldog's sports show. I loved the way all of his callers rang in hailing the presenter a heroic figure and a great influence, only to be cursed and told to 'beat it' by Bulldog. I also found the fact that Frasier kept dropping in that he'd attended Harvard into every conservarsation. I wasn't particulary keen to the liazrd bites Kate Costas twist, and therefore I thought this episde lacked the verbal spark of the season opener. |
