A little suspension of disbelief might be in order

Actually, I became a bit of a tape-splicing 'expert' back in the 80s, with plenty of audio and video tapes salvaged in my time. I even managed to miraculously save a Commodore 64 game I had copied to audio tape despite having something like 5 seconds of code chewed up! How that game ever loaded again is beyond me.
In my attic I still have my official 'Liverpool - The Mighty Reds' VHS tape spliced with a load of footage from Mexico '86 on the end. God knows why I did that. I reckon if I tried playing it now the tape would simply disintegrate

I definitely don't think it was odd that Daphne didn't fix the tape. Easier to just stick another tape in the spot and hope he won't notice.

It just annoys me that such a big detail wasn't paid any attention, unlike in S11's excellent Crock Tales.

I'm not sure I've contributed to this thread so far - but the way I see it is that Frasier is finished, we've talked about all the episodes, but we all love the show! So nitpicking over the little details is the way to go.

typical bloody woman!

Yeah, we were both obviously pretty good at doing that KS - we're a couple of technologically minded geeks!
Nothing about Daphne's character tells me she'd have the slightest inclination/skillset to be able to take a knackered tape apart and fix it, therefore the plot scheme was entirely plausible. If my missus broke a tape she'd just chuck it in the bin.
Hehe, I'm going to keep this argument up for as long as it takes...

It's Roz who doesn't understand him. Frasier just helps him find a really good restaurant. Jean-Pierre wants to break up with Roz, but they carry on talking for Roz to think that Frasier is telling Jean-Pierre that she wants to break up with him.
