According to my emails, I received a PM on 9th October, but there isn't a new one displayed in my inbox?

Maybe they changed their mind and it was deleted after it was sent.

Yeah, if it's still in your outbox (as opposed to the sent folder) you can delete it, I think.

Yeah, you can edit the message as many times as you like as well, as long as it's still in your outbox.

With regards your question BGF, I'd be very surprised if the person who sent you a PM will want to admit it. They deleted it, so unless they want to subject themselves to relentless interrogation about whyyyy they deleted it they'll do the smart thing and keep stumm.
