Episode Synopsis
Niles is in finacial straits due to his divorce so Frasier suggests moving out of his luxurious apartment in the Montana, and till he finds another one, he offers to put Niles up at his apartment. Of course, Niles brings with him some of the more fastidious elemts of his life like de-humidifiers, sounds of the rainforest and his deep breathing exercises that drive Frasier to distraction and cause him to be late for an important job interview. However after meeting with Roz, who says she saw Niles going into the cinema the day before, it transpires Niles has spent the two weeks at Frasier having a good time instead of apartment hunting.
Frasier says he will go with him to find something, and the last stop on their trip is the Shangri-La apartments, complete with the bed that folds in to the cupboard and a selection of clothes left by the previous owner who committed suicide. Niles just hates it but Frasier says that he has no choice. Back at home, Frasier feels guilty so he and Martin go and see him - to discover Niles in a luau shirt and about to play table tennis with his neighbour Jimbo. However when, Martin says this is his kind of place, Niles erupts and phones Maris to plead her to take him back, but realises he has moved on, and settles into his new life at the Shangri-La.

Episode Highlights
- Frasier and Martin see Niles in a hatchback, who
pulls in sharply when he spies one of his snobbish friends while on the
phone to Frasier:
Niles: Dad, I need your help.
Martin: Oh my God! What is it?
Niles: I need you to get out and pretend this is your car.
- Frasier queries how Niles has hurt his shoulder:
Niles: I've been parallel parking all week without power steering.
- Frasier thinks Niles' rent is excessive:
Frasier: This apartment is a little large for one person.
Niles: I have a pet.
Frasier: Are you telling me your bird requires a study and a
library.
- Niles has been reorganising Daphne's kitchen:
Daphne: Where's my jar of Bovril?
Niles: That brown meat paste? I threw it out - it smelt rancid.
Daphne: That's how it's supposed to smell - it's English!
- After Niles has turned on numerous humidifiers and machines
to aid his sleep:
Niles: The sound of that rain's gonna keep me up all night.
Frasier: I'm surprised you can hear it over there in mission
control (!).
- Frasier and Niles are looking at the Shangri-La, but Niles
wants to go:
Frasier: We haven't seen the apartment yet, and Frank was kind
enough to put some pants on and bring us up here.
- After Frasier frets about Niles being happy at the Shangri-La:
Martin: I'd be happy here - this is my kind of place.
Niles: Get me out of this hellhole !!
Frasier Online Episode Review
An enjoyable episode dealing with Niles' transistion to life free of Maris. Seeing Niles' night time rituals - such as his 'Sounds of the rainforest' tape was great, as was the scene where Martin gets lost in Niles' apartment (with its 3 floors!). The scenes at the Shangri-La were very funny too - Niles and Frasier's reactions to seeing the room, and the bed that pulls down from the wall were wonderful. All in all, a highly amusing episode that deals well with the continuing Niles and Maris storyline.
