| Episode Synopsis |
Frasier and Niles lament their barren love lives until Martin gives them
the idea to throw a singles party. The party at Niles' place is crowded
with potential women and, rather inevitably, Frasier and Niles fall for
the same woman - Vicky - and spend the rest of the evening battling each
other for her attentions, with both resorting to backstabbing if necessary.
Meanwhile, Martin has died his hair brown and believes that he looks much
younger, except for the fact that he manages to leave brown stains all
over Niles' antique furniture. However, when Roz's water breaks all over
Niles' carpet, the scene shifts to the hospital where the Cranes argue
over whose life is in a worse state, before Daphne arrives having been
stood up at a Bat Mitzvah, and then finally Roz's baby is born - Alice
May Doyle.

| Episode Highlights |
- Frasier is rather non-plussed when Niles reveals
his latest purchase: an antique prayer rug:
Niles: Paid a fortune for it but legend says whatever you pray
for on this rug will come to you.
Frasier: Certainly worked for the dealer (!)
- Frasier's way of stopping Daphne from incessantly yammering on.
- Martin has an idea to boost Frasier and Niles'
love lives:
Martin: Why don't you do what my buddies and I used to do when
we were young and hard up for dates?
Frasier: Invade Korea (?!)
- Frasier tries to tell Roz he isn't interested
in her friend Tina, despite her best efforts:
Frasier: She showed me how she could tie a knot in a cherry stem
with her tongue
Roz: That's a party trick
Frasier: The cherry was in my mouth at the time!!
- Niles has to leave Vicky as there's a small fire
in the kitchen:
Vicky: Is it a serious problem?
Frasier: Oh no, he's always run like that!
- Niles comes over and interrupts Frasier and Vicky:
Frasier: Not now Niles, I'm telling Vicky my recipe for Crepe
Gateaux
Niles: Oh well, I'm sure she's had enough of your crepe by now
(!)
- Daphne is taken aback at Martin's attempt to dye
his hair with Colour-In-A-Can:
Martin: It said 'As Seen On TV', just spray on and go - how did
I know it was a lousy product?
Frasier: If only there'd been some clue (!)

Roz gives birth to her daughter Alice in this, the first of two consecutive party themed episodes, and a hugely funny episode it is too. It sees Frasier and Niles hosting a singles party, but both end up chasing after the same woman, which is the source of some great laughs as each tries to win her affections, as does Martin's attempt to look younger by dying his hair - and proceeds to stain Niles' furniture in the process. In fact there are lots of great little moments all the way through the episode - Frasier's way of stopping Daphne's conversations, and it not working on Martin, Daphne's slipping Jewish phrases into conversations, and the scene in the hospital where Martin, Frasier, Niles and Daphne debate who has had the worst night. We get to see mother and daughter doing fine in the final scene, bringing to a close this rather fine episode.

The showrunners loved to mine this single's party motif into the ground, but in the end, always managed to make it work. This umpteenth soiree is this time hosted by Niles, he and Frasier bemoaning their lack of available females in their lives. One can't help but ask, that with the number of women at this party, why not just query them individually at whatever place you know them from? Why go to the trouble of a party? Ok, I'll stop. As is customary, Frasier can't get a minute alone with the babe he wants to chat up, this time with a twist: Niles is courting her, too. So there's also that dabble of another tired Frasier standby, sibling rivalry. But if you sort of let yourself go with this one, it still delivers the wares. The culmination is the birth of Roz's baby, and though spared an obligatory "squealing on the gurney" delivery, there is an air of hollowness after the kid arrives. Would've expected a more tender -- and longer -- exchange between Frasier and Roz. All in all, this ep works well enough, and gives John Mahoney admirers a chance to see him with a dye job. |
