Episode Synopsis

Roz is having her apartment fumigated, so Frasier offers to put her up as Martin is off to San Francisco for the weekend with Duke. She arrives just as Martin is leaving, and tells Frasier that she has had her calls forwarded to his number. One of the messages left is from the Garrets, the parents of the father of Roz's baby, who want to get in touch and see how she is. Roz is somewhat alarmed by this and wonders what they want, but Frasier thinks it would be a good idea to meet them, and so invites them over that weekend. Once they arrive, both Frasier and Roz find it hard to ignore the fact that both Steve and Paula Garrett have huge noses. Roz struggles to keep a straight face, as do Niles and Daphne. Martin too gets a shock when he meets them for the first time after he and Duke cut their San Francisco trip short after finding all their old haunts gone and after attending what they think is a rally, think they may now be married! Roz thanks Frasier for getting her to meet with Rick's parents, and he points out that Rick didn't have a big nose - however, the Garretts give Roz a picture of Rick before his nose job....! Also, Frasier gives Daphne a pair of earrings from the drugstore which she mistakes for real sapphires in honour of her 5 year anniverary of working for Frasier.

- Niles reads out a story from the paper about a brother helping his other brother by giving him one of his lungs:
Frasier: What do you want?
Niles: I need you to come to a dog show with me.
Frasier: I would rather give you a lung (!)

- Frasier shows Martin the earrings he has bought for Daphne from the drugstore:
Martin: What are they - sapphires?
Frasier: Oh yes Dad - I always buy precious stones at the same counter I pick up corn pads and Wart Be-Gone!

- Martin is excited about his trip to San Francisco with Duke to retrace their steps from their shore leave there in 1952:
Martin: Back then, there was no place like Frisco for a single guy cruising the streets looking for a good time
Frasier: You know Dad, I think you'll find Frisco hasn't changed all that much (!!)

- The look on Roz's face when she meets Steve and Paula Garrett for the first time.

- Niles mentions that he is going to the Seattle Kennel Club's annual event:
Paula Garrett: Steve and I just love dogs - we have 2 giant Schanuzers!
[Niles struggles to keep a straight face!]

- Roz, Martin and Daphne are in the kitchen:
Steve Garrett [calling from living room]: Mmm, what's that I smell:
Martin: Probably Japan!!

- Niles finds Daphne's missing earring:
Daphne: Dr Crane, I could kiss you
Niles: Okay!

Frasier Online Episode Review

Rox gets a glimpse at how her baby could turn out when she meets Rick's parents - who come complete with very large noses! While I didn't find the comedy in this episode distasteful, as some do, it humour felt at times pretty obvious, and yet I thought the episode still worked. I found the scenes where first Roz, Martin and Daphne struggle to stop themselves laughing, and then finally Frasier, very funny. Aside from that, the two minor stories both provide their own fair share of laughs - Martin recounting his trip to San Francisco with Duke was great, as was Daphne mistaking the earrings Frasier bought for her as real sapphires. The episode ends rather sweetly with Daphne and Roz talking about her impending motherhood, which in itself is something of a rare occurence, and rounds off this enjoyable episode

One of the funniest ever, Aug 26, 2011

It's a mystery why some people are so po faced about this episode. Its detractors get all
sniffy about it's supposedly not living up to the lofty accomplishments of the writing team,
or some such nonsense. Worse, they then take the high moral ground, seeming to suggest
than anyone who DOES love this episode somehow doesn't understand what Frasier was all
about. But Frasier was a broad church. What made it so great was that it could do
insightful, character-led observational comedy, high farce and even camp silliness. That was its
brilliance. This epsiode is one of the high water marks of Frasier as farce. And on those
terms it is a masterpiece. Some complain that to make fun of people with large noses is
puerile. Indeed it is. But the episode clearly turns the joke on the regulars who poke fun at
the Garretts, who are never represented as being anything but a warm, lovely couple. At
the end of the day, any episode can really only be measured by how many laughs it gives
us. I have laughed out loud a this episode more times than I can remember. On that score
alone, it scores a perfect 100%.
