Episode Synopsis
Roz is late for her date, and forces Frasier to speedily drive her there, but unfortunately he gets stopped by a female police officer. He tries to use his celebrity status to get let off, which initially fails, but when the officer sees from his licence it's his birthday, she lets him off with a warning. Frasier ponders over their meeting and becomes convinced that the officer seemed interested in him. Frasier manages to persuade Martin to contact one of his buddies on the police force to find out some more about her, which he does: her name's Maureen Cutler and she usually frequents McGinty's, a cop hangout. Frasier decides to go down there, hoping to bump into her, but Martin goes along too so he won't feel too out of place.
Luckily for Frasier, Maureen is at McGinty's but when Frasier goes and
gets drinks for the three of them, Maureen and Martin get talking and
she discovers that he also was on the Seattle police force. In fact, they
get along so well that when Maureen gets beeped she gives Martin her number
in case he wants to see her again - all of which happens before Frasier
returns with the drinks. Martin is left in a quandry - should he go out
with a woman he finds attractive, knowing that Frasier is also interested?
So Martin decides to consult Niles for some advice.....

Episode Highlights
- Frasier is pulled over by a pretty policewoman:
Frasier: Good evening, officer. I'm Frasier Crane - if there's
a problem, I'm listening.
- The policewoman notices it's Frasier's birthday:
Roz: Why didn't you tell me it was your birthday? I'd have thrown
you a party at the station.
Frasier: Question asked, question answered (!)
- Niles wonders if his father has told Frasier about
what happened with Maureen:
Martin: I haven't told him yet
Niles: Why not?
Martin: I just can't.
Niles: Can I ?!
- Daphne and her friends convince Frasier to see Maureen
just to get him out of the house:
Frasier: Thank you ladies for your support - even if it was nakedly
self serving and insincere (!)
- Frasier wants to know why Martin and Maureen are on
a date:
Frasier: I'm at the lowest point I could possible be. Just tell
me the truth.
Martin: Maureen asked me out.
Frasier Going down!
- Frasier goes to work at KACL after learning the truth
about Martin and Maureen:
Frasier: Remember that policeman I was interested in?
Roz: Yeah.
Frasier: Well, she's dating my father!
- After Frasier reveals all his problems to Roz, they
step into Roz's booth:
Frasier: The only comfort I have is knowing my humiliation can't
possibly get any worse
[KACL staff jump out from under the console]
Everyone: Surprise!!
Frasier Online Episode Review
This episode sees the introduction of a regular girlfriend for Martin in the form of Maureen, played by Jane Kaczmarek (who would go on to play the mother in 'Malcolm In The Middle'). I found the storyline that led to this event to be fairly amusing with a couple of great scenes: Martin turning for the first time to Niles for advice, and the final scene at KACL where Frasier reveals to Roz that his father is dating someone he is interested in and he hasn't had sex in nine months unaware that Roz has assembled some KACL staff in her booth to surprise Frasier and hear everything. A great ending to what is yet another good Season 3 episode.
