Episode Synopsis

After Niles, Frasier and Martin have to share a taxi after Frasier's car brakes down, they suddenly find themselves in unfamiliar territory as the taxi driver goes into labour. Frasier and Niles get completely flustered so it is up to Martin to take control of the situation. Talking afterwards of the miracle of childbirth, Niles feels a bit left out. Frasier suggests something that teenagers do to see the parental responsiblilty involved in having a child - carry around a bag of flour as if it were a child. Niles takes up the challenge, and before the week is out it has been burnt, singed and savaged by dogs. What will Niles decide about childbearing now...? Meanwhile, Frasier has signed a get well card he believed was a birthday card with a comment about death and tries to get it back before the patient notices.

Frasier Online Episode Review

A satisfying episode that deals well with looking at Niles' suitability as a father. The exploits of him and his flour 'child' are highly enjoyable, especially his unfortunate mishaps that result in his 'child' being burned and gored. The main storyline is nicely punctuated by Frasier's exploits with the get well card that he has to retrieve from a kidney patient, making this another great Season 2 episode that ends rather poignantly as Niles resigns himself to not being a father just yet.

Not as good as the reviews, Apr 22, 2009

This episode is just not all that great.

From the moment that the taxi driver started going through labor, I knew Niles would just about faint. From the moment he took up the sack of flour (glad it wasn't an egg though) I knew it would end up with a tear, a burn, and eventually destroyed (although I failed to see Eddie as the ultimate culprit).
Yes there were some great lines in the episode, but if you can foretell everything that would happen in an episode THIS early in the shows run, that isn't good.

Apart from the quite nice moment between Frasier and Niles at the end where Niles realizes he is not ready for father hood, it just wasn't even close to a special episode.

And honestly from the moment Niles started considering fatherhood, the main thought that kept me entertained was "with Maris?!?! How??"
